HOW MUCH ACOUSTICAL TREATMENT DO I NEED?
Believe it or not, if you have an echo problem in an open room with all hard surfaces it is actually quite easy to fix. Rooms with echo problems are typically built with either a drywall ceiling or open rafters. These rooms don’t have the traditional lay-in ceiling to absorb the noise so it bounces around the room and echoes until it runs out of energy.
To fix this problem is a simple math equation. Based on the Volume of the room (L x W x H) and what it is used for (i.e., office, gym, restaurant), we can run a simple formula that will tell us exactly what your current reverb time (echo) is and how many panels you need to solve the problem.
The good news is any acoustical product can fix the problem IF you use the right amount. You need to balance the equation and the exact amount will depend on the formula and the NRC rating of the product. The formula spits out how much absorption you need. We then divide that by the NRC of the product you want to use to figure out how much square footage is needed.
It is truly that simple! If you take the amount we recommend and install it in the room, your echoing problems will be solved. The exact placement of the ceiling tiles doesn’t really matter as long as you spread the panels across the room and don’t lump them in one corner. After they are installed, the noise moves so fast that it will find the panels very quickly and your echoing will be diminished.
